We hooked up with Avan7 who just released his remix to the well-known full-on morning anthem by Sesto Sento ‘Mysterious Ways’ on Nutek Records.

Tell us about Avan7. Who are you, how did you discover Psytrance, and what made you start producing?

My name is Francisco. I am a 30-year-old artist from Brazil and I have been part of the psytrance scene for 15 years now. I started playing instruments when I was just five years old. When I discovered electronic music around the age of 14, I completely shifted my focus to experiencing the festival and rave culture, which eventually led me to music production.

Can you share a bit about your studio setup and creative process?

I work out of a home studio built just outside my house. I draw a lot of my inspiration from touring and traveling, so I try to bring those experiences back and channel them into my tracks. I usually produce quickly, but there are certain tracks that take me over a year to finish. I am still learning how to balance studio time with traveling and family life, but things are going well.

The reaction has been very special. I have actually seen people crying on the dancefloor. The crowd recognizes the original melody right at the beginning, but they do not know exactly where it is heading.

You just released an official remix of the Sesto Sento classic “Mysterious Ways” on Nutek Records. How did you manage to get the green light to remix such an iconic track?

I actually asked Aviram from Vini Vici directly. We were at Hipnótica in Goiânia and I was playing the set right before his. I had a great gig and closed with “Peace & Love”. He came over to congratulate me, and since I had been waiting for the right moment to ask for this remix, I took my shot. I told him how much the track meant to me and my career. He approved it right there on stage and told me to go finish this beautiful story.

Why did you choose that specific track? Does it hold a deeper personal meaning for you?

It is definitely the track that has influenced me the most. I first heard it when I was around 14 through my older brother. That track literally motivated me to move from my hometown in the countryside to seek a better life for myself and my family. The lyrics have a message that “what you give is what you get” and it really resonated with my journey through art and festivals. It taught me about trusting the universe and having faith in your path.

Remixing an established classic carries a lot of responsibility. How did you approach updating it for today’s dancefloors?

It took me almost a year to finish because I felt a huge responsibility to get it right. The biggest challenge was actually sourcing the original stems since not even the band had all the files anymore. Musically, I was torn between keeping it old-school or modernizing it. I ended up structuring it more for current dancefloors. I preserved the atmospheric, transcendent parts but shortened them slightly to keep the energy moving. It now features a distinct break and a modern drop that balances the original vibe with current dynamics.

What has the crowd’s reaction been like when you play the remix in your sets?

The reaction has been very special. I have actually seen people crying on the dancefloor. The crowd recognizes the original melody right at the beginning, but they do not know exactly where it is heading. Once the break hits and the final drop comes in, the energy completely shifts. At 145 BPM, it is a highly energetic track that works perfectly live. Releasing this official remix really represents a new phase for the Avan7 project as I enter my thirties.
