Libra – It’s all “Subjective” – Interview
We hooked up with Yoni Dagan – the man behind the Libra project. He just released his debut album “Subjective” on Future Music Records. Yoni talked with us about his long Psytrance journey, organizing parties and about his music production.
Listen to Libra – Subjective (Full Album) while you read!
Tell us about your first encounter with Psytrance music.
I was a kid when my older sister gave me a CD she had just bought. It was Chakra & Edi Mis – The Promise Land. I didn’t know what this music was, but I was instantly drawn to it.
Do you remember the moment and the track which got you hooked on it?
Yes, definitely. It was a track from the same album I mentioned, titled X-Files. That’s the one that started it all for me.
We know you used to organize psytrance parties – what made you do that and can you tell us a bit about those parties.
In 2004, some friends and I started organizing underground parties under the name Konta. It was just to bring people together and see if we could create something on our own. In 2007, after hearing a Goa track I hadn’t heard since childhood, something sparked inside me – that’s when Psilosiva was born. The idea was to do full Goa trance parties, which were rare back then.
I wanted to hear the artists I listened to as a kid and experience them live at parties – something I couldn’t do back then because I was too young when I first got into psychedelic music.

It started with small gatherings and eventually grew into massive events, but we always kept it unique and true to the core ideas we grew up on: freedom, connection, exploration, community, nature, psychedelic arts, great music, and acceptance.
When did you start music production and why? What is the vision behind Libra?
I started messing around with music around age 16. I started playing the guitar and experimenting with electronic music just as a hobby. No name, no goals – I’ve released some music around 2011-2014 under this name but with no plans I honestly just did it for myself .
The idea behind Libra is to be authentic and true to the core values I mentioned, to create music that offers an alternative point of view, a balanced experience of old and new. A bridge to memories, dreams, and future visions.
Libra really started later, in 2015, after I found out some DJs were playing my tracks and apparently people were actually resonating with. Around the same time, a friend who is a big promoter pushed me to play a set at his party, even though my initial reaction was : He’ll no! I decided to give it a try and face my fears. I had been behind the scenes all my life, so being suddenly in front was a big challenge and very scary , in a way I’ve been dealing with this issue till this day. Since then, I’ve decided to take it more seriously, to focus on my craft, and to give it my full attention.

Tell us please about your studio set up.
It’s a simple setup. I recently upgraded from Dynaudio BM6 to Focal Trio ST6 monitors. I have 8 or 9 analog synths — Moog, Roland, Behringer — and an RME interface. It’s a small and warm home studio, treated for acoustics.
You just released your debut album ‘Subjective’, can you share with us the journey of creating it. What can people expect to find while listening to it? Any track that has a special story around it you can share?
I started working on Subjective in late 2018. It took me a long time — not just because of the creative process, but also because of everything happening in the world and in my personal life. I went through ups and downs, and it took me a while to glue together the story I wanted to tell — a journey into my thoughts and experiences through music and sound.

The track Subjective was the turning point. It’s a mix of my favorite influences — Goa trance, UK breakbeat, and my own signature sound. Once I had that track, the rest of the album started to come together.
One personal and meaningful part of this project was the artwork. My sister – the same sister who first introduced me to psychedelic music – hadn’t painted in years, but I somehow convinced her to create the artwork for the album. She also did the artwork for the very first party I organized back in 2004. That made the whole thing feel like a full-circle moment. It added a deep, personal touch to the album that meant a lot to me.
Your favourite Psytrance track ever, just one, we know it’s hard…
Hallucinogen – Deranger.
(No doubt).
Future plans.
Now that the album is out, I finally have time to work on other things. Some new material that’s not album-oriented, collaborations, remixes, and I’m also working on a side project that’s more freestyle and less genre-specific. I hope to share it soon.
