Atomizers – Is There A Future? – New Album Interview
Atomizers project is the new fusion between two veteran musicians: Dani (Skyfall / Menog) and Ivan (Techyon / Ankh / Yestermorrow). The guys have know each other since 2001, but only in recent years did they decide to start a project together, and their first EP was released by Iono Music in 2014. Their new album has just been released on Iboga Records and we used the opportunity to hook up with them for a short interview.
While you read, listen to Atomizers new album:
Q. So who are Atomizers – you both have your own personal projects – how did you end up together? What differentiates Atomizers from your own projects?
A. We are Daniel (Menog & Skyfall) and Ivan (Yestermorrow & Boundless), we are very good friends and living just 30 mins away from each other… the rest is history.
Atomizers is a project directed to strong rhythms, grounded baselines and the explosive buildups….the fact that it’s a 2 brain project makes it already different from our own solo projects, since two crazy heads will make a different point of view.
All the album’s art concept was thought to be a criticism of some weird rising politics and values that were taking place at the end of 2019 and before…. even in our deepest imagination we couldn’t figure out such a scenario as the real 2020.
Q. “Is There a Future?”, your second studio album, is out now on Iboga Records. Tell us a bit about it. Does the name connect to the current situation in the world with Covid-19?
A. All the album’s art concept was thought to be a criticism of some weird rising politics and values that were taking place at the end of 2019 and before…. even in our deepest imagination we couldn’t figure out such a scenario as the real 2020.

Q. What can people expect to find in the new album?
A. Fresh ideas and the accumulation of all these years of knowledge with working with other people, it’s definitely our masterpiece.
Q. Tell us about your creative process, how do you split the work? Does each of you have regular duties in writing tracks or you just flow with each other’s ideas?
A. We get immersed in the studio together, have a glass of wine, talk about different things, get inspired by each other’s experiences and creation starts to flow. Sometimes we also work online, and share the files between us.
Q. How are you dealing with the Covid situation?
A. In the beginning it was very weird to digest the reality of things, now we think it’s enough, were ready to go back in action in the globe!
Q. What was your first encounter with psytrance? What inspired you to start writing music?
Dani: My first psytrance party was 1997 with X-Dream in Portugal, I remember like it was today. The moment I decided to make psytrance was at Boom Festival 98, my first influences were Cydonia (Dino Psaras), GMS, Infected Mushroom….
Ivan: I surely have this moment crystal clear in my mind and it was at Boom Festival 98, this is one of the many reasons why this festival is so special for me. My main inspirations at that time were Hallucinogen, Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, Lemurians…
Q. Fans and beginner producers are always curious about their favorite artists’ studio set up. Would you walk us through some of it?
A. We mainly have a good Apple CPU, Fireface UFX, the Genelec 8351B, VirusTI, a Eurorack module setup and a bunch of VST and plugs.
Q. What would you say is the ultimate psytrance track for you?
A. Any one that hits you the right way on the dancefloor.
Q. What’s in the future of Atomizers?
A. Keep working on new music and hope that this Virus situation gets back to normal soon…
