Just two days ago we were shocked to learn that DJ Ronen Dahan who was the man behind the projects Perplex & Pura Vida has died when he was shot to death by gunmen raiding a party he was playing in, in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. This happened just 2 days after he celebrated his 45 birthday. This short article is in his memory. Presenting to you some essential tracks from his vast catalog.

Ronen Dahan was born in 1974 in Northern Israel. When he was young, Ronen formed a local rock band where he was the lead singer and guitar player, proving that music was always an integral part of his existence.

His voyage into Trance music begun in 1990, during the early days of the Israeli Goa Trance scene. Ronen stumbled upon a party, and the fresh awesome sounds, thoughts and ideas the trance scene brought with it affected him immensely. In 1994 Ronen took his first trip to India, it was then that he realized that Trance music is not just electronic music but an actual lifestyle. Inspired by his trip, Ronen returned home and begun his long productive DJ and artistic career. In 1995, he moved to London and met the legendary Tsuyoshi Suzuki and Mark Allen. Later that year he returned, filled with energies, to Goa.

At that point he realized he’d be better creating his own music and began writing with his friend Peter in Melbourne. Soon after, he returned home to Israel and begun fulfilling the dream of producing a full-length Perplex album. During all that time he played extensively in parties and events all over Israel.

For more than a decade Perplex uplifted dance floors all over the world with his special fat juicy, driving full-on sounds, loaded with melodies & emotions. In total, 13 albums were produced and a numerous amount of tracks on labels such as: Com.Pact Rec., Trancelucent Prod., Maia Rec., MDMA Music, Spliff Music, Utopia Tec., HOMmega ,Glowing Flames, YSE and the list goes on.. During his musical career, he also collaborated with some of the most prominent artists of the scene. In late 2015, he created together with Daniel Zitrin the project Pura Vida. Characterized by a blend a fresh mixture of driving vibes and fresh grooves, the project was met with great enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, Ronen was killed during a shooting which took place at a party he attended at San Luis Potosi, Mexico, on June 29, 2019.
