Yemaya Festival – fresh vibes from downunder
Yemaya Festival 2016:
Young Australian festival (this year was the 3rd edition), located in Fernihurst, Victoria, alongside the Loddon River. The festival takes place around April. It’s enough to look at the photos and read what dancers and DJs experienced to realize that something special is going on there. For example, this year Perfect Stranger closed the festival with what was supposed to be a 4 hours set, but turned into an 8.5 hours set, when no one present wanted it to end.
Why Yemaya: “Yemaya is a mother goddess, signifying home, fertility, love, and family. Her healing powers are carried in the great waters, her energy powerful during the ebb and flow of life challenges. Like water she represents both change and constancy, bringing forth life, protecting it, and changing it as is necessary.”
There seems to a solid philosophy and a lot of thought and love behind the festival. It is divided into nine elements (Yemaya Stage, Ashaba Temple, Grand Bazaar, Cellar Door Bar, Creation Station, Healing Sanctuary, Performers Hub, Live Jam Space, Art Gallery), that offer a lot of activities for all states of mind and body.
A lot of thought went into the opening ceremony with a Djembe and Didgeridoo ensemble, and it seems to have been a very strong experience judging by the photos and people’s reactions.
