Infected Mushroom have been around the block for a while now. Their Discogs page mentions 10 albums, over 30 EPs and over 200 appearances in compilations and that’s before you dig into their countless collaborations with Psytrance’s finest. For every dancefloor bomb they dropped they released many many gems that disappeared into digital oblivion. Here’s a short list of must hear Infected Mushroom hidden gems you may have forgotten but totally deserve a listen!

Infected Mushroom are way beyond Psytrance these days, the band are performing all over the world in huge venues, playing their own special breed of electronic music, release on big EDM label, Dim Mak, and are in many ways quite far from your regular psytrance follower. But Infected Mushroom came from Goa Trance and Psychedelic trance, and besides their more known tracks there are a lot of hidden gems and great tracks that are a must to every psytrance lover.

So here you can listen to some must hear Infected Mushroom tracks that you might have missed and really should know!!!

 

Infected Mushroom – Small Moves

Erez and Duvdev love their Sci-Fi and it feels there’s no Sci-Fi classic they did not sample somewhere. Small Moves was released as an EP on Jörg’s Shiva Space Technology label in 1999 and contained samples from Contact, an often overlooked first contact movie starring Jodie Foster and Matthew McConaughey. Both tunes on this EP are classic “The Gathering” era tunes that could easily be featured on the album as well.

Infected Mushroom – Wider

Wider was released on DJ Dede’s Future Navigators 2 compilations that hosted a bunch of other classic tunes, but Wider takes the cake here with its hard digging sound and a final melody that could make Tiesto cringe. Astrix remixed the tune a few years later and did it well earned justice

Infected Mushroom – Symphonatic

Symphonatic, much like Wider, was Infected Mushroom, showcasing their hyper melodic style that could easily be labelled as cheesy and Euro Trancey. Definitely not a tune to cater to scene’s hardcorists but an interesting direction that hinted back in 2000 what to expect from the guys in the future.

GMS and Duvdev – Arabian Knights on Mescaline

Another, possibly inevitable collaboration was Mad Scientists’ hijacking of Duvdev’s keyboard skills in this number. You take Bansi and Riktam’s powerful sound, combine it with Duvdev’s melodic prowess, spice it with a classic Matrix sample and you are destined with an unforgettable dancefloor classic.

Fly Agaric – I See Myself

A match made in heaven some might say. Simon Posford, possibly Psy Trance’s biggest royalty, and one of Infected Mushroom’s biggest influences, teaming up with Infected Mushroom and Michelle Adamson, to sweeten the deal, to bring us this somewhat forgotten gem that was released in Twisted Records. It was definitely a nice appetizer but probably not the classic it should have been.

Infected Mushroom & Yahel – Electro Panic

There was a time at 2003 that you could not escape this one. Infected Mushroom were already a huge cultural phenomena but this collaboration that was released on too many compilations to count was permanently imprinted into everybody’s eardrums by the end of the year. It was so big that it even echoed in the beginning of Ott’s debut album, Blumenkraft.

Domestic Mushroom – Scotch

Ido Ophir is currently one of the most respected Mastering Engineers that puts the final touches on your favourite tracks but back in the day he was making great music himself and even collaborated with scene’s crème de la crème. This here is your typical early Infected Mushroom tune that has Ido’s trademark sound manipulation

Infected Mushroom – BP Empire (Deep Mix)

The original mix is a pretty well known and is featured on their 3rd album (that carries the same name) but this slightly, ehhhm deeper, mix is a pretty good number as well. It showed a direction that unfortunately the guys didn’t really explore further but alas, we still have this one.

Jörg on Mushroom – The Messenger

Another early tune, and this time with Jörg, a guy who is often credited for kickstarting IM’s career.
The Messenger is that tune you drop on your friends when they discredit Psy Trance for being a random disharmonic mess. 12 minutes of crazy mood swings, complex rhythms and skillful piano improvisations. It was basically IM outshpongling Simon Posford.

Shiva Shidapu – Power of the Celtic

Before they were Infected Mushroom and before they were became a well oiled psy trance machine. There was a kid named Erez Eizen and a trance veteran named Jorg Kessler. Erez Eizen used to make tunes on this primitive PC program called Impulse Tracker and send them around to his friends over primordial Internet social hubs named BBSs. By some chance some of those tunes caught Jorg’s attention who was already a name in the scene, DJ’ing in Goa parties. A generation crossing collaboration formed quickly and the duo released a single, pretty mediocre album that contained this little gem that gained quickly underground success. When Erez met Duvdev he decided to drop Shiva Shidapu and become a more professional with his production and their debut album as IM showed just that.
