Elfam – Trancentral Interview
Elfam – Trancentral Interview
DJ Elfam is Elvinas, hailing originally from Lithuania. His interest in music sprung from an early age. It was first break beats that came into his life as the young man joined a local break dance community back in Lithuania. In between he was exploring Germany with his dad and had a chance to visit “Love Parade” few times where as a kid he was introduced to Techno scene. That all together could’ve laid a base for his relationship with psychedelic trance. We hooked up with Elvinas to hear more about him and Psytrance in Lithuania.

Q : Tell us a bit about yourself – who is the man behind Elfam?
A : Hello friends! I’m Elvinas, world’s citizen, born in Lithuania, currently staying in Surrey Hills, UK. In everyday life I’m keeping myself occupied with various projects, learning about the world and myself. Music has been around me from an early age and for the past few years I’m DJ’ing, connecting with people and being part of Psychedelic Trance movement.
Q: How did you discover Psytrance?
A: It was the first break beats that came into my life as I joined a local break dance community back in Lithuania from an age of 10. In between I was exploring Germany with my dad and had few chances to visit “Love Parade” where as a kid I was introduced to the Techno scene. That all together could’ve laid a base for my relationship with Psychedelic Trance. As soon as I came across this meditative bassline the exploration into the subtleties of the genre began.
Psytrance culture [in Lithuania] has been alive for decades, there are plenty of festivals and parties to choose from. I know some folks who moved back from the UK to Lithuania expanding the movement even more with their fresh ideas and projects.
Q: Do you remember your first party?
A: Indeed. Yaga Ball in Lithuania, Vilnius, an annual winter freaky masquerade. As you’ve may guessed it’s quite an unforgettable event, especially when it’s your first Psy-trance party. Check them out: http://yaga.lt/
Q: You are connected to few labels – please tell us more about that.
A: I am now part of UK growing label 1.2 Trip Records which has many new talents and is releasing music that, as elfs like to say here, is “my cup of tea” (full-on “taste”). Quality music, friendly and supportive people, proud to call myself a label DJ there. Check more here: https://soundcloud.com/12triprecords
Another label which I’d like to mention is BMSS Records which I’m not part of but it was a great source of inspiration and insight for me while on my musical journey. Therefore, I always love to share new releases of moon brothers and sun sisters in my DJ sets.
Q: You also organize events – tell us about your vision and how are you dealing with the Covid situtation.
A: I was organizing events in the UK and Spain and the process has always excited me. At the current situation it’s now on “Pause” mode and I’m using this time to concentrate on playing music and finding new ways for both myself and the listener to get deeper into the state of trance. To do so I’m experimenting with different tools and softwares as well as paying attention to sounds and frequencies in my surroundings, often recording and incorporating them into my sets.

Q: You are currently based in London, but you are originally from Lithuania – is there a presence for Psytrance culture in Lithuania?
A: Psytrance culture has been alive for decades, there are plenty of festivals and parties to choose from. I know some folks who moved back from the UK to Lithuania expanding the movement even more with their fresh ideas and projects. Today, a great example is Kasparas and his project Transcendental Spirit, he is becoming the biggest promoter and international decorator: https://www.tspirit.eu/ . If you ever decide to explore “forest country” Lithuania, I highly recommend to check Yaga Gathering, defined as a modern rituals festival.
Q: Your ultimate psytrance track is…
A: If I can choose only one I go for “Yab Yum – Disconnect”, but at the same time it doesn’t stand higher than any other good-old-golden tracks out there.
Q: Future plans?
A: I always try to be present and look at what is given to me now, taking most out of it and using it as an opportunity to express myself fullest. That being said I do have goals to travel and be part of more events, possibly create new spaces for gatherings and share this uplifting energy Psy-Trance has to offer.
